Tracking Down Great Dog Beds
It is not necessary to spend all of your money on a name brand dog bed to get a quality dog bed. On the other hand, you do need to be watchful of quality while dog bed shopping. When purchasing dog beds, you are doing yourself a favor by buying one nice dog bed versus a lot of low quality dog beds over the years. Why? over time, purchasing several low quality dog beds will be more expensive. However,With that said, well made beds will not last an entire lifetime. All dog owners will buy more than one dog bed. However, well made beds will require fewer purchases. Before investing in a dog bed make sure you are aware of what you should be looking for in a high quality bed.
- Can you remove the inner contents?
- Does it have high memory foam?
- Is the bed washable?
- Is it large enough for your dog?
- Will the fabric will not shift upon washing and drying?
The more yeses you get to these questions the better off you will be. You may find it difficult to find every quality that you want in all sizes and colors. Priority should be making sure the bed is the right size for your dog, style and color are up to you. When making you dog bed selection, if all else fails, go with a tan color to match almost anything.
It is usually not very hard to locate small dog beds. On the other hand, large dog beds are not as easy, but they can be found. It is extra important that the interior is high quality with a large dog bed. Because larger dogs utilize them, they can do more damage to them with their weight alone. Some dog beds have removable centers that double as dog crate beds.
These beds are amazing investments and save space and money! A dog favorite is the bolster dog bed. Bolster dog beds have a padded outer top that gives additional comfort and protection.
Above all else, keep quality construction in mind while shopping for your dogs bed. Cost does not necessarily determine quality. Keep in mind that sometimes you are only paying for a name. Some of the smaller, lesser known dog bed brands will sell for less and offer better deals because they are trying to bring in business not because they have a worse standard of quality. Purchase intelligently and read the description of the product you have decided to purchase before you purchase it. Both you and your dog will be happy you did!
One more word of advice. One way to find good bargains is following Christmas. You will find that local merchants and online merchants will run great sales to attract customers. Since everyone just spent tons of money on the holidays, they do not want to spend a lot in January. The other great time to save is when seasons change.

Get Helpful Information About Hybrid Vigor In Labadoodles
Various contentions have been put forward in the dog world by some, (eg those against mixed breeds), that ‘hybrid vigor’ is allegedly not possible (for example) when breeding labordoodles (ie mixed breeding of Labradors and Poodles) as it is alleged that hybrid vigor is only possible with mixed breeding of unrelated animals (eg horse and donkey). However, that it not correct.
For example, see http://www.ermanz.govt.nz/resources/publications/pdfs/ER-IS-03-01.pdf:
“What is a hybrid?
A hybrid is an organism resulting from a cross between genetically different parents. Hybrids can arise from crosses between closely related species (interspecific hybrids) or by crosses between different types (subspecies, varieties, cultivars) within a species (intraspecific hybrids).
Hybridisation occurs naturally, but it is also widely used in selective breeding programmes for both plants and animals. The mule is an interspecific hybrid between the horse and the donkey, bred to combine some of the favourable characteristics of each parent. Intraspecific hybrids often show ‘hybrid vigour’ (heterosis), growing more vigorously and yielding more than in-bredlines.”
Hence, laberdoodles are ‘intraspecific hybrids’ (ie are within species breeding) and do show hybrid vigor.
Also, see http://www.country-wide.co.nz/article/449.html:
Another important but often forgotten principle is what happens when you interbreed the first cross (F1) progeny. In essence if you breed (F1) sires and dams together, there will be less hybrid vigour in the progeny. Like wise hybrid vigour also drops if you breed back to either of the parent breeds.
Our Labrodoodle puppies are F1 generation (ie first cross between Labrador & Poodle), maximising hybrid vigor (or heterosis), and minimising inbreeding depression, etc. And have purebred parents with champion bloodlines/pedigrees.
The F1 (ie first generation) of Labradoodle puppies have more hybrid vigor than the second or so generation, are less likely to be more variable then some other generations, and also have the least inbreeding depression.
Another interesting scientific point to note about our F1 Labradoodles is that research has shown that these have increased longevity or rates of survival (eg research has shown up to 4 years longer), due to the absence of inbreeding (such as that occurring in purebred dogs). And the same research has shown that the higher the rate of inbreeding (eg in purebreds), the lower or shorter the longevity or survival rates. This relates to the term known as ‘inbreeding depression’, and which is
described in more detail at inbreeding depression and inbreeding depression.
And this may be due to the benefits from hybrid vigour, especially compared to the negative effects known as ‘inbreeding depression’ present in purebreds.
Unlike some breeders, we can guarantee the genetics of the puppies are solely Labrador/Poodle, as the parents of our Labradoodle puppies are purebred, and with pedigree papers. And this also ensures that they are definitely F1 puppies.
The term ‘hybrid vigor’ is used in various fields, such as breeding livestock, rabbits, aquaculture, plants, cats, dogs, etc.
And rather than just us giving you our opinion etc re hybrid vigor, we thought you may like to read information from other sources. So that you can make an informed choice or decision.
So, below are some relevant extracts re hybrid vigor, and links to their sources:
From MSN encarta online:
‘hy-brid vig-or
improved traits resulting from crossbreeding: the increased growth, disease resistance, or fertility seen in hybrid species.’
From Encylopedia Brittanica online:
‘Increase in such characteristics as size, growth rate, fertility, and yield of a hybrid organism over those of its parents.’
‘Plant and animal breeders exploit heterosis by mating two different purebred lines that have desirable traits. The first-generation offspring generally show, in greater measure, the desired characteristics of both parents. Since this vigour may decrease if the hybrids are actually mated together, the parental lines must be maintained and crossed for each new crop or group desired.’
From Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary:
‘heterosis
the marked vigor or capacity for growth often exhibited by crossbred animals or plants — called also hybrid vigor’
From report by CSIRO:
“The benefits of hybrid vigor only appear in crossbred animals that have parents of completely different breeds.”
From a transcript of the Senate:
“veterinarians recognize the concept of ‘hybrid vigor,’ especially in first generation hybrids”
From United States Department of Agriculture, University of Arkansas, and County Governments Cooperating:
“The highest level of hybrid vigor is obtained from F1′s, the first cross of unrelated populations.”
“Hybrid Vigor – An increase in the performance of crossbred animals over that of purebreds, also known as heterosis.”
So, there should be little (if any) doubt that the first generation (ie F1) Labradoodles have the maximum hybrid vigor and the least inbreeding depression compared to other generations etc.

History and Tips of The Bull Terrier
The Bull Terrier is a a breed that has been bred for strength, agility, and tenacity. In Europe dog fighting and bull baiting were considered to be major forms of sport and entertainment. The quest to find the breed that would be a good pit fighter was of great importance!
So there was always the constant need to breed different strains of dog breeds. In the early 1800s, there was a breeding between an Old English Terrier and a Bulldog. Thus creating a dog that was called “the Bull and Terrier”. The Spanish Pointer was added to the breeding strain to give the dog more size. This resulted in what was called the Bull and Terrier. You will probably want to pick up some dog supplies for your Bull Terrier.
The Bull and Terrier became the premier dog at fighting exhibitions but were not loved like other breeds because it was thought that there was too much association with “lower society”. When dog fighting was abolished, true Bull and Terrier admirers began to put Bull Terriers in dog shows to prove they were more than just what they had been bred for.
James Hinks in the 1860s crossed the Bull Terrier with Dalmations. This created an all white dog that we all know as the Bull Terrier. The Bull Terrier has a distinct head shape that emerged through additional breeding. Sometime in the 1900s, the Bull Terrier all white strain had more colors as a result of being cross bred with the Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
It was not popular at first with by most of the Bull Terrier enthusiasts but was granted its own rank by the AKC in 1936. The personality of a Bull Terrier can be best described by their temperment. They are frolicsome, assertive, and comical. They are loyal companions and great family dogs however they have a very high energy level. It has been said that they have the mischieviousness of a cat. They can be a bit stubborn and willful and this can make obedience training a bit difficult. Bull Terriers require a bit of patience, enough time, and the right attitude and they can be trained to be excellent pets and show dogs.
They also can be trained to make great watch dogs that have an awesome fighting ability should they need to protect their family! The Bull Terrier despite it’s tough guy reputation, are very sweet natured and gentle as well as devoted to their families! The Bull Terrier to maintain a happy and healthy physique and behavior must have vigorous walks and high energy stimulation as well as mental stimuli.
The Bull Terrier has a measured tolerance for cold and hot temperatures. While it is okay for them to be outside during the day it is recommended and advised that the Bull Terrier be brought in during the night to be with the family. The average lifespan of a healthy Bull Terrier is between 12 and 15 years. There are a few major health concerns that need to be looked after, including kidney problems and deafness. Minor health issues include allergies, compulsive behavior, and heart problems. Occasionally seen is knee cap dislocation called patellar luxation, but this is extremely rare with the Bull Terrier.

Long Distance Moving Companies: Perfect Tips for Relocating Your Pet Dog
When you have a pet dog, you know that it isn’t just a dog; she’s a member of the family. Since that is the case, you must take her into consideration when it’s time to relocate. This moving checklist will review a few things that you should do before the relocation to make the process simpler.
Before the moving day, you should ensure that the prospective house will fit with your dog. If your dog is a smaller breed, this can be simpler, but you should still see if the place will be good for her. Are there bigger, more aggressive dogs nearby? Are there stairs that will be hard for your dog to traverse? Small dogs live closer to the ground, so if she’s a house dog that goes outside to do her business, you might want to ensure the outdoor environment is relatively clean since she could pick up gunk on her belly.
With bigger dogs, the cthoughts become largely about sizes. If he’s an inside dog, will there be enough area for him in your new house? Big dogs can be clumsy, so if there are a lot of tight corners, then they might hurt themselves or knock off knick knacks. More importantly, though, is the external area. Will there be a good place for him to get sufficient exercise and socialization? If you take these things into account, it is likely that he will become happy in his new house.
Additionally, before the relocation, you should make a checklist that you can follow. This can relieve a good deal of stress since many decisions are made ahead of time. Your pet may or may not be used to long travel, so you might want to visit your vet and discuss the relocation with her. While you are there, you should see if she can give you records you need for your new vet.
If you are going to be travelling by air, you might want to hire one of the many long distance moving companies that are available so that during the trip you only need to worry about essential items, your family, and you dog. This can make a world of difference for your travel experience. If your relocation is within the state, say Florida, then you can hire a Florida moving company to take care of this for you. Even if you’re not moving far, you would be surprised at how much simpler the process will be.
With good preparation, moving with your pet can be a pleasant experience and you will soon be happily adjusted in your new house.
What You Need To Know About Labrador Obedience Training
If you are looking for the perfect pet for your family, a Labrador retriever just might fit the bill. There are many reasons why this breed has constantly topped lists of the most popular family dog, including their friendliness, playfulness and loyalty to their families. However, Labs that come home from the breeder as cute bundles of fur will quickly grow into dogs that can weigh more than sixty pounds.
If you don’t begin Labrador obedience training early on that big, boisterous pet may be running the show in your household before you know it! This is why it is so important to teach your Lab to respect you and the other members of your household from the first day that he sets his paw into your home. A dog that understands who is in charge will be much more likely to obey the rules of the house and follow your commands. There are a number of methods that you can use to begin Labrador obedience training from day one with your pet, and many will help to instill respect and a willingness to follow your lead.
One of the first steps in effective Labrador obedience training is consistency. Just like small children, a dog needs to know that the rules are the same all the time, and that if he doesn’t follow them, he will get a scolding from you. This means that if you want your Lab to stay off of your bed, you can’t allow him to jump up even once. Any exceptions to the rule will quickly be picked up on by this intelligent creature, and he will continue to push you to the point of exasperation if he thinks his efforts might be successful.
While you are busy enforcing those rules, keep in mind that positive Labrador obedience training that incorporates plenty of praise and rewards will generally be much more effective than sessions that utilize punishment as a form of motivation. Because these dogs are very eager to please their masters, praise will work very well to get these dogs to obey your commands.
Labrador obedience training with a very young dog should be limited to just a few minutes, and should include lots of praise and rewards. When your dog is first learning a command, keep distractions to an absolute minimum to ensure that you have your puppy’s full attention. As your dog begins to be comfortable with a particular instruction, include some distraction to the training session, like tossing treats around him or bouncing a ball as you give the command. This will help to ensure that your dog will obey you in any circumstance, no matter what distractions might be lurking about. Good beginning commands will include sit, fetch and stay, but lie and come should be close behind those. In the beginning Labrador obedience training sessions, make sure to reward your dog even if he sits for only a second or two. As you progress, you can require that he sits for longer periods or stays put even when you walk away or turn your back to him. These training sessions will pay off with a dog that is well behaved and a pleasant addition to your family.
Labrador training is not particularly difficult, but it does take plenty of time and effort on the part of the owner, beginning with learning the best techniques for training Labs. Fortunately for the new dog owner, there are many good Dog training books and articles like this available so you and your Labrador retriever can start off on the right foot.
About The French Bulldog
The French Bulldog can best be described as a compact and tough dog. For many years the French Bulldog has been a popular pet for the family. While known as the French Bulldog it is likely that it descended from the English Bulldog along with a mix of other French and English breeds.
During the late 1800′s there was much popularity for the Bulldog in France and it was also at this time that the dog was brought to North America. The French Bulldog has always been a member of the non-sporting breed group and is best known as a family pet. The breed was first accepted into the American Kennel Club in 1898. When full grown they will typically weight between seventeen to twenty-eight pounds with an average height between eleven to twelve inches at the shoulder. By considering the temperament and needs of the French Bulldog you can determine if this breed is right for you and your household.
The French Bulldog can be either small or medium in their overall size and often has a dwarf mastiff appearance. They typically have broad shoulders, a deep chest, a thick neck and muscles that are well developed. The coat is typically a brindle color or fawn and white. If they are not used as a show dog they can also be bred with a coat color of black, mouse and liver colors.
They typically have a very affectionate and energetic personality. They make excellent family pets because they are easy to form a close and loving bond with. They like to spend as much time as possible near their human companions and are very faithful watchdogs for the family. Since the breed is not considered a sporting dog and typically has low energy they don’t have much exercise requirements. Although a good family pet they do tend to do better with the more mature children since they sometimes won’t be very tolerant or understanding of a young child’s behavior. The French Bulldog will typically tolerate other pets but only if your introduce them to the French Bulldog when they are still a puppy.
Unlike the English Bulldog, the French Bulldog is very easy to train due to their attentive and intelligent nature. Although most people prefer not to train their dog and just accept them as they are since they make sure excellent family pets without the training.
When it comes to special health concerns the French Bulldog is at risk for developing breathing problems if they undergo excessive exercise, high levels of excitement or high environmental temperatures. This is because of their short nose and overall skull shape, referred to as Brachycephalic syndrome. These breathing problems can become serious and life threatening. Therefore it is best to avoid walking your pet in hot, humid weather and you also shouldn’t leave them outside in hot weather for extended periods of time. If you ever notice your French Bulldog having trouble breathing or sounding like they can’t catch their breath then you need to contact a veterinarian right away for medical treatment before the condition gets too serious.
The French Bulldog is one of three Bulldog types. You can determine if the French Bulldog is the right pet for you through Bulldog information.
