Moving Trucks: Important Decisions to Make if Moving Your Cats

by Pet Care on July 22, 2009

Cat’s are great animals to have. Despite usually being independent animals they often provide a lot of love to their owners and get a lot of love in return. I have four cats of my own. Every cat has its own personality. Cats need a good stable place to call home. When moving with cats there are a lot of things you will need to consider. How do they act when they are in cars? Do you have more then one cat? When was the last time they were at the vet? Is it a long distance? It is very important that you take the safety and well being of your cats very seriously if you are considering moving, especially if the trip is going to be long.

If your cat acts crazy when it is in the car, then maybe you should consider flying with your pet. You will want to be careful flying with your pet in the summer. By taking your cat on short car trips, you may be able to get it used to the motion of a vehicle. This may reduce the amount of time it takes the cat to settle down while in the car. You will most likely be moving your cats.

You will need to know how large a moving trucks you are going to need. How much stuff so you need to move? You will want to find a safe place to put the cat’s caboodles. By putting the cats by the door, all you will have to do is open the truck when you stop. This will also reduce your stress of constant meowing coming from your cats. Plan extra stops on your trip to make sure your cats are alright.

A cargo van rental would be another option to move your cats. There is plenty of ventilation in a cargo van, and you can see your cats to ensure they are safe. If your cat(s) can see you this might help calm their nerves too. You will want to get your cat used to a leash. Make sure to put the leash on them before you open the van door. This will allow your cat to stretch and get some exercise.

There are many costs associated with moving. You will want to find out the mortgage rates of the new home before you commit. You do not want to risk the safety of your cat. Health insurance for your cat may be a good idea. This way if your cat does get sick you can have it treated along the way.
